August 25, 1924 - February 8, 2014
Although the family of William Roy Cannon is saddened to announce his passing on February 8, 2014, Dad's prayers have been answered. He is now free from illness and pain and finally reunited with his beloved wife and life partner, Garda, who predeceased him 11 months ago. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hamilton General Hospital Ward 4W for their excellent and compassionate care during his three week hospital stay. Also to the many staff at St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke, where Dad resided for the past year, thank you for your kindness and support. Special thanks to the Physiotherapy Department for helping Dad to achieve his goals and mantain a sense of dignity. Dad was a WWII veteran and a proud Canadian. He was a hard worker, who retired from Stelco Canada (Hilton Works) after some 40 years of service. Dad was a loyal friend, a good neighbour and a skilful fisherman. Thanks to the many friends who visited him in hospital and at St. Peter's, your kindness helped to brighten his days. Dad was a proud and supportive father to Judy and David (Bette), the best Papa ever to Amy (Raj) and Laura (Michael) and a special Great-Papa to his great grandchildren, Arjen William and William Michael. Dad was a lifetime member of Mount Hamilton United Church, where he served on many church committees and was a Cub leader. Mom and Dad enjoyed many vacations together with family and friends and made annual trips to Westport (Rideau Lake) and Florida. We will all cherish the wonderful times we shared together and remember the important role that Mom and Dad played in making these times special. A memorial service to celebrate Dad's life will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 11 a.m. at the Cresmount Funeral Home, Upper James Chapel, 1020 Upper James Street, Hamilton. Please join the family for a reception following the service.
