Winnifred was the beloved wife of Robert Aubin, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. Born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica on October 22, 1925, she was the cherished daughter of the late Benjamin and Georgina Cain. She was a devoted mother to Cloverlyn Grant, and loving stepmother to Heidi Aubin-Lee. She was the proud and adored grandmother of Debbie, Sharon, Catherine, Roxine, Corey, Carey, and Isaiah, and was predeceased by her grandson John-Paul. Winnifred was a beloved sister to Maude, and a dear sister-in-law to Florence Aubin (Victor) and Jackie Aubin. She is predeceased by her siblings: Ivy, Eleanor, Mavis, Itta, Mabel, Linette, Albert, Arthur, and Harold — she was the youngest of 11 children.
Educated at the Litiz School of All Ages in Cheapside, Jamaica, she successfully completed the Jamaican Local Examination at the age of 16. Over the course of her life, she held many roles — working in England for five years as an amateur winder, then later as the proud owner and operator of Aubin’s Grocer in Hamilton, Ontario. She retired in 1991 after 25 years of dedicated service. In retirement, Winnifred remained active in her community, volunteering her time generously. She enjoyed traveling throughout Canada, the United States, and Jamaica, and especially loved road trips to Florida with her husband, where they delighted in the scenery, family visits, and exploring new places.
Winnifred married Robert Aubin on July 29, 1966, and their love was an inspiration to all who knew them. She will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends across Canada, Jamaica, the U.S.A, and England. She will be fondly remembered for her impeccable fashion sense — always beautifully put together — her love of gardening, and her vibrant social life with family and friends. Special thanks to the staff at The Village of Wentworth Heights, and especially to the wonderful team at The Wellington, for the exceptional care they provided to both Winnifred and her husband.
