Al was pre-deceased by his wife of 25 years, Leonora, in 1995.
Al is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Paul Hysell (Edie); daughter, Deborah Critzer (Steve); step-son, Shawn Miller (Jennifer); grandchildren, Paul Hysell Jr. (Julie), Bret Critzer (Tamara), Stephen Franzen, Cheyenne Franzen; four great-grandchildren; and a long list of great neighbors, friends, and his loyal canine companion, Buddy.
Al was a proud Army Vietnam veteran, serving in country in 1971 - 1972. He was assigned to the 361st Aviation Escort Company "Pink Panthers". Al was an AH-1 Cobra Attack helicopter pilot, earning a Bronze star and Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions and a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. He had an extreme respect for all veterans and especially for the over 58,000 that never returned from Vietnam.
After his service to this country, Al worked his way to many leadership positions in the financial and automotive sectors, including becoming Vice President of a bank and later managing several different loan centers, automotive sales finance, and parts stores.
Al had a host of hobbies such as relic hunting, vintage motorcycles, and muscle cars just to name a few, but his favorite hobby was outdoor grilling and smoking some of the best pork you have ever eaten. It brought him great joy to hear the compliments and see the genuine smile on anyone's face who happened to be fed from his grill and smoker.
Al had an amazing charisma that brought many great friends into his life. The laughter, smiles, and tears shared left wonderful memories for Al and those around him. He loved his family dearly, and we love him as well. Al said that he hoped all who knew him could look back and find a memory that warmed their soul in his absence.
On behalf of Cpt. Al Hysell and family, to all the Vietnam veterans, thank you for your service and sacrifice.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project or you local Veterans Association in his name.
