

Al was born on May 19, 1949, to Albert Elsey and Alyce Young in Philadelphia, PA, and grew up in the South Bronx, NY. After graduating from Dewitt Clinton H.S., he was drafted in the United States Air Force (USAF) to fight in the Vietnam War. After the war, he remained in the USAF for 20 years, 2 months, and 2 days. During this time, he received numerous degrees certifications, awards, medals, citations, and commendations in defense, service, aeronautics and engineering.
During his time in the USAF, he met his wife Margret Carey Young, and they went on to have five children. In 1988, Al retired from the USAF and went to work for the department of defense in Saudi Arabia, instructing generals on the use of tactical aircraft. In the late 1990’s he began a new career by developing a new field of study at Hampton University, The Aviation Department.
Al was an avid scholar. He placed a high importance on education and knowledge. Al was a devout Christian focusing on biblical studies. He was a certified engineer, economist, mathematician and computer scientist. You didn’t want to compete against him in a game of chess or monopoly as he was fiercely competitive. Al was a nerd and a comedian. His laugh was a guffaw. It was so boisterous that he would have to hold his stomach and kick his legs in the air every time he laughed. It was contagious and endearing.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marget Young; daughter, Sylvia Ceasar; brother Ernest Young; and sister, Francesca (Leyt) Young. He is survived by his sisters; Tracey Young and Ronnie Walters, his children; Wardell Ceasar, Renea Carter, Sylvester Ceasar, and Patrick Ceasar; 1 son-in-law, 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 7 nieces and nephews, and 7 great-grand nieces and nephews, his special friend Sharon Johnson and numerous friends and loved ones.
