Amelia passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on June 9, 2025. She was born on May 20, 1942, in Paco, Manila, Philippines, and later made Hampton, Virginia her permanent home. It was there that she met the love of her life, Edward A. Pearson, their union lasted many years and together they began their beautiful family. Amelia remained a cherished member of the Hampton community for many decades, touching lives with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering faith.
A woman of deep faith and purpose, Amelia worshipped at Bethel Temple before later joining Cell-ebration, where her spiritual devotion and gentle presence touched many. She pursued higher education with dedication, earning her Bachelor's at The Manuel L. Quezon University in the Philippines and Master’s degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Amelia devoted over 30 years of her life to teaching at the Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind, where her compassion left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. When Amelia was not serving as a teacher and mentor at VSDBH, she could be seen winning at Bingo, reading a good book, or traveling with that magnetic smile that brighten every room she entered.
Always a smile. A kind word to and for everyone she met. But there was no bigger smile than when she spoke of family. As much as possible Atlanta and California was as much home as Virginia. Her heart Was God, Church and her children, and grand babies.
She is survived by her three beloved children: Edward II, Joi, and Christina, along with six cherished grandchildren: Brenton, Edward III, Samara, Eden, Gabriella, and Sylah. In addition to her immediate family, Amelia leaves behind her two younger brothers, Pablo and Nestor Mondok; her loving extended family that includes many adopted children, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. She will be fondly remembered as a devoted mother, a nurturing grandmother, a loyal friend, an inspiring educator, and a faithful Woman of God whose love and legacy will live on through all who knew her.
