

Born in Yukon, West Virginia, the daughter and sister of a coal mining family, she was a resident of Hampton, Virginia for more than 70 years.
Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Giles "GT" Ford; son, Glenn Ford and his wife, Cindy; and daughter, Trina Murray and her husband, John. She was a loving Nana of grandchildren, Nick Murray, Laura Hunter Kirk and Garrett Ford and great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Charles, Dylan and Ezra. She was preceded in death by her three sisters and three brothers.
Betty was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Smith Sunday School Class. She worked at Bendix/Siemens/Continental in Newport News from its opening until she retired in 1991.
Betty was a devoted wile, mother, and Nana. She was a talented seamstress, making clothing, toys, dolls, and doll clothes for her children and grandchildren. Her mashed potatoes, gravy, cookies and red velvet cake were family favorites.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm Friday, September 16, 2016 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 1509 Todds Lane, in Hampton. A celebration of Betty's life will immediately follow at 3:00 pm in the church with Rev. Suzanne Gibson officiating. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park. A reception will be held at Bethany United Methodist Church following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church for Mission projects.
The family would like to thank the staff of Commonwealth Assisted Living (Hampton) and Medi Hospice for the loving and compassionate care provided during Betty's long illness.
