AUX SOINS DE
Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park
Betty Ann (Barker) Toomey born October 23, 1952 entered the gates of Heaven on October 22,
2020. She was reunited in heaven with her parents John and Ruby Barker, grandson Edward
“EJ” Downing III, sister Susan Montefusco, niece PJ Williams, and Son-in-law Edward
Downing Jr. She leaves to cherish her memories, her daughter Tanya Downing-Austin (Michael
Austin); son Danny Rice (Anna Lisa); granddaughters Brittany and Michelle Downing, and
Kyilee, Isabella, and Aurora Austin; sister Helen Baker; nephew Eddie Barker (Emily); nieces
Tina Ashley (Roger), Allison Tinker (Jim), and Tammy Meyer; and several great-nephews and
nieces.
She was a devoted Mother and especially loved her role as Grandma. She was a lifelong member
of Langley Baptist Church and a member of the Knitting Guild. She enjoyed crocheting,
needlepoint, sewing, and quilting. She would make prayer shawls for the nursing homes and hats
and booties for the babies. Always making something for family and friends, whether it be a
blanket, clothes, or something as simple as a scarf you knew it was made with love.
She had a heart of gold and made friends everywhere she went. Always willing to lend an ear or
give loving advice. Betty Ann was kind, generous and truly cared about the well-being of others.
Over the years, she had opened her heart and home to 48 kids that she babysat. She had touched
so many lives in her 67 years and will be greatly missed.
There will be a celebration of life on November 7th 12:00 at Langley Baptist Church 116 E.
Little Back River Road, Hampton, VA 23669.
