

Charlotte B. Mierchuk, age 92, of Hampton, VA, died peacefully at her home Wednesday, June 12, 2024. Charlotte was a teacher’s assistant for 30 years with Hampton City Public Schools, while raising six children after the death of her husband, Alexander, in 1972. She was born in Hot Springs, VA in 1931 and graduated from Bath County High School.
She moved to Richmond, VA to work for C & P Telephone Company. She married Alexander N. Mierchuk, a U.S. Navy Yeoman and civil servant, in 1952 and moved to Hampton, VA. Charlotte was one of the longest standing members of Wythe Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the session, volunteered in the nursery, and served as the treasurer of the Women’s Circle. She also volunteered with, and supported, the Peninsula Chapter of the Virginia Special Olympics. She was a member of the Red Hat Club and enjoyed trips to the Outer Banks with cherished friends each Summer. Charlotte’s favorite pastimes included spending time with family, reading, watching Western movies, supporting her local theatre, and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, Charles and Pearl Burns; sister, Nancy Barlow; brother, Zane “Buzzy” Burns; and grandson, Charlie Hellman.
Charlotte is survived by her sister, Wanda Tefft of Houston, TX; six children, Michael Mierchuk (Laura), Mildred Ricketts (Dennis), Mary Ann Meyer (Bob), Mark Mierchuk (Kim), Melissa Hellman (Victor), and Martha Honeycutt (David); six grandchildren, Chris (Amber), Kira (John), Holly (Matthew), J.D. (Samantha), Casey (Adam), and Sean; and 7 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Wythe Presbyterian Church at 151 Robinson Rd, Hampton, VA 23661 on Friday June 21st at 1PM , with a reception to follow. Should friends desire, contributions may be sent to Wythe Presbyterian Church via mail or online at https://www.wythepres.org/giving.
