

Claude R. Watts, Jr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully August 20, 2025 at the age of 88. Born on April 8, 1937, in Caldwell County, NC, Claude lived a full and remarkable life, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, love, and service.
He was the devoted spouse of Patricia M. Watts and the proud father of five children: Jeff (Christine), Gina (Michael), Pam (Patrick), and Nick (Katie). Claude was also the cherished grandfather of 8 grandchildren and great-grandfather to 5 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Margaret Hunt, and 5 nephews.
Claude was preceded in death by his daughter, Leann Ashcom; his parents, Claude R. Watts, Sr. and Marie Anders Watts; and his brother, Fred Watts, and sister, Patricia Walker.
Claude proudly served in the Army and later enjoyed a fulfilling 38-year career at NASA Langley. His dedication extended beyond the workplace; he was a familiar and beloved presence at the Langley Activity Association as their #1 bartender for over 20 years. Later, Claude worked with Cortez/Trax at NASA Goddard before retiring in 2004.
Claude’s passions included cars. He was a proud member of the First Flight Cruisers Car Club where he enjoyed showcasing his prized 1939 Packard. Whether sharing stories at car shows or simply enjoying time with family and friends, Claude’s warmth, humor, and love for life shone through.
A Masonic Service to celebrate Claude's life will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home (Parklawn-WoodFH.com) in Hampton, VA, on September 16, 2025 at 11:00 am. The family invites friends and loved ones to join in honoring Claude's memory.
Claude will be dearly missed but never forgotten, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
