

He was the son of James and Mabel Bounds of Hampton. He graduated from Kecoughtan High School and attended Old Dominion University. He worked for J. H. Bounds & Son’s Electrical Contractors. David was married to Sharon Boone Bounds for 57 years. He went into the Army for four years where he taught ground control radar at Fort Monmouth NJ receiving various awards.
He has 3 children, David Bounds Jr (wife Melissa), Gwendolyn Booth (husband John), and Christina Bounds.
8 grandchildren Zachary Bounds (wife Ainsley), Bria Kearley (husband James), Katie Bounds, Maddie Bounds, Jonah Bounds, Isaiah Booth, Ellie Bounds, Nathan Bounds, and 1 great granddaughter Harper James Kearley.
He was called into the ministry in 1975. Went to Liberty Baptist College (Liberty University) where he lived with Sharon and the 3 children in Lynchburg. Graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor's in Pastoral Ministries. He was called to a position at Phoebus Baptist Church (Restoration Church) where he served as a youth pastor and then became a staff pastor.
He was with Grace Ministries International in Atlanta in 1993, then Grace Ministries of Carolina in 1995 and served as an Interim Pastor at several churches in the area. He started Grace Bound Ministry.
David was with SBC of Virginia for 15 years. He served pastors and churches with the SBC of Virginia for 15 years. His compassionate pastoral leadership helped people and churches find stability during transition, experience healing in the midst of pain, and experience the love of Christ. Dave provided powerful leadership and personal friendship as he sat in on meetings, hosted pastor meals, trained churches, counseled over coffee, preached powerfully, and more. He wrote a book along with Jeff Mingee on “Grace Objectives”
After retiring, because he dealt with Parkinson’s, he was asked to be a part of Coastal Community Church in Yorktown to encourage staff and help mentor those entering the ministry. David’s life displayed a genuine love for Jesus and the Body of Christ. He truly lived Mark 12:30 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength.”
His favorite Bible verse was Philippians 3:14
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus”
His great love for his Family, and the Body of Christ shall forever be an example to follow in our hearts, he shall be forever missed.
Because of David’s involvement in so many churches and ministries, the family would like to request the funeral be for the family only.
