

David W. Goodwyn was a living example of Psalm 30:11 & 12. "You have changed my sadness into a joyful dance; you have taken away my sorrow and surrounded me with joy. So I will not be silent; I will sing praise to you. Lord, you are my God; I will give you thanks forever."
On December 19, 2023, David passed away at his home in Hampton, Virginia.
David was born to Hilton Warner Goodwyn, Jr. and Rebecca Lloyd Dickerson on October 15, 1953, in Richmond, Virginia.
In 1972, David met Susan Piland at Campbell College (now University) in Buies Creek, North Carolina. In July 1974, David sold his beloved 1963 Triumph motorcycle to buy an engagement ring for his true love, Susan. They married on December 28, 1974, they would have celebrated their 49th Wedding Anniversary this year.
David graduated from Campbell with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in August 1976.
He and Susan relocated to Hampton, Virginia, and enjoyed fellowship at New Covenant Church. They had 6 children together. David worked hard; at times working up to three jobs at a time to provide for his family.
In 2011, David retired after working nearly 30 years for the City of Newport News Waterworks Department and spent his time with family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, and two of his children, Nathan and Hannah Goodwyn.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, and his remaining children: Abigail Hockett (James), Joshua Goodwyn (Devon), Zachary Goodwyn, and Rachel Krock (Randy). He is survived by his sister, Faye Goodwyn. David is also survived by five grandchildren: William Goodwyn, Zachary Krock, Alexander Krock, Olivia Hockett, Gideon Krock, and countless other family members and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at New Covenant Church, 1079 Big Bethel Road, Hampton Virginia on December 29, 2023, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in David’s honor to the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters (CHKD) or CareNet Peninsula or to New Covenant Church: Missions.
