Nécrologie de Dolores Lucille Genirs
Dolores “Del” Genirs (née Kuster) died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 in Hampton, VA at the age of 91. Dolores was born on September 1, 1929 in Queens, NY, to the late Henry and Barbara Kuster. She graduated from Richmond Hills High School and married Richard Genirs, her first love, whom she had known since 6th grade, in 1950. Richard and Dolores welcomed four children into their home, eventually leading to seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her children remember her as a kind and supportive mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals and was always there in times of need. Dolores worked for Chemical Bank as a secretary until she and Richard retired to Hampton, VA in 1991. Dolores was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who delighted in spending time with family – from holiday celebrations to Disney vacations. She was an active and dedicated member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where she enjoyed volunteering at Sunday Suppers. She was an avid reader and always had a puzzle to do or crafts to make. She had many hobbies, including bowling, crocheting, baking (her linzer tarts and cheesecake will surely be missed), and singing. Dolores used her vocal talents as a member of the Sweet Adelines in New York. And, Dolores will be remembered for her style, always ready to go anywhere. Dolores is survived by her children, Donna Okerblom and her husband, David of Hampton, Gary Genirs and his wife, Donna of North Merrick, NY, Richard Genirs of Hampton and Scott Genirs of Hampton; grandchildren, Shannon of Atlanta, GA, Jason and his wife, Mingyung of Clifton, VA, Scott and Steven of Hudson, FL, and Cory, Courtney and Christopher of North Merrick, NY; and great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jacob, and Justin of Clifton, VA and Tristan, Raymond and Brooklyn of Hudson, FL. She is also survived by her sister, Marilyn Passaro of Smithfield, RI. A funeral mass is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666, with Father John Grace officiating. Due to limited seating, please call the church office at 757-826-0393 for availability. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Heart Association at heart.org or Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org. The family would like to thank the PACE staff for their care of our loving Mom, Nan and Great Nana.
