He enjoyed a life of fresh air, engineering highways and bridges, and dedicated himself to family, friends, and those in need. Whether it was an immigrant family in need of car repair or an animal in need of a home, he went above and beyond to do the best for others. He was proud of his farming roots and always believed in the value of hard work, having retired from a long career as a civil engineer with Virginia Power.
He had a playful, loving nature around his granddaughters, while his competitive nature came out playing Gin Rummy with his mother and Mario Kart with his son. Now the highway is behind him and he has crossed over the last bridge into his Savior’s arms.
Survivors are his loving wife, Margaret; son, Lee and his wife Karen; granddaughters, Zoey and Sadie; brothers, Dan and Ronnie; several nieces and nephews; and his loving cats, Lulu, Graycie, and Dancer.
A Celebration of Donald's life will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, Virginia, 23666 with Pastor Greg West officiating. Interment in Parklawn Memorial Park following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army or the Isle of Wight County Humane Society.
