Donald "Don" Lee McCrickard, age 90, of York County, VA, entered his heavenly rest on April 13, 2025. He was born in Basset, VA and lived much of his growing up years in Portsmouth, VA. He was a devoted husband and loving father to his children, involving himself with youth activities such as Little League.
As a young teenager he made the life changing decision to follow Christ and was a great influence on many members of his family, who later followed his example. His faith never wavered, and no matter where he lived or was stationed, he and his family were always involved with a local church. He was an ordained Deacon and actively served many churches. At the time of his passing, he was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown.
Don was a United States Air Force veteran with 21 years of service during the Vietnam war era. He was a radar technician and worked mostly on C130 aircraft. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant (MSGT). His second retirement was from the Norwegian company Munch Automation Technology, where he worked as a control electrician assembling control panels for the automated crane systems.
His hobbies after retirement were building computers and traveling. Don and Pat traveled across country in 1999 in their 33 ft travel trailer with their two dogs. He also fell in love with the Amish country in Lancaster, PA.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pat; his sons, Gary (Kathy), Paul (Pat), Rick, and Jeff; Grandsons, Bryan, Jason (Natalie), Steven (Jenna), and Aaron; Great Grandchildren, Will, Grant, Jude, Eliza, James, Ruth, and Addie. Don was predeceased by his First wife Anne, his parents, Russell and Grace McCrickard, and his brothers, Ed, Arnold, Billy, David, and Carroll Joel (who died shortly after birth).
A public visitation for Don will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, Yorktown, 1004 Yorktown Rd., Yorktown, VA 23693, followed by a celebration of life service with military honors at 10:00 AM.
A special thank you to the Fluff N Puff Senior Care for their loving and tender care of Don for almost 3 years. We could not have asked for better and thank Dean Robertson's class and the Joy Class at Bethel Baptist Church for all their support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Care Net Peninsula or Thrive Peninsula.
