

Dorothy “Polly” Marple, age 96, went home to her Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Born in Hampton, Virginia on August 6, 1920, to Susan and Raymond Lundell, she was a lifelong Hampton resident and a beloved member of her community.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Orison “Ike” Marple, her sisters Phyllis Smith, Peggy Peake, Evelyn Sechrist and brother Jimmy Peterson.
She retired from Coliseum Cinemas and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in downtown Hampton. She was a member of the Women’s Circle and always looked forward to her monthly lunch meetings with all of her friends. She was affectionately known to all of the neighborhood children around her as “Aunt Polly”, many of whom are now adults and still call her that. Polly was an avid bottle and doll collector and spent many years digging in old dig sites for her treasures.
She is survived by her three children, Susan (Mark Holland) Vallee, Donna (Glenn) Allen, and Robin “Ike” (Kathy) Marple. Also her many Grandchildren, Great and Great-Great Grandchildren, as well as her many nieces and nephews. She loved her family dearly and would always tell them so every time she talked to them.
A celebration of her life will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home in Hampton on Friday, February 24, 2017 at 2:30pm with interment at Oakland Cemetery following. The family will receive friends and family at her home immediately following interment.
