She was born in Laurinburg, NC and was a resident of Newport News since 1958.
Her greatest joy and focus was caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. Her caring nature also led her to open her home and heart to those who were in need of a good meal or a place to rest. After many years of service, she retired from being a Nurses’ Aid at Riverside Regional Medical Center.
Preceding her in rest was her husband, Thomas Ruffin Sawyer, Sr., and son, Steven R. Sawyer. Surviving members of her family include her children, Thomas R. Sawyer, Jr. and Sue Sillery; grandchildren, Julie Blevins and husband Andrew, and Michael Munson and wife Kylee; former daughters-in-law, Debbie Sawyer Raphael and Suzanne Sawyer Dynes; best friend, Naomi Phillips; sister-in-law, Mildred Lovett; nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.
A memorial service celebrating Pauline’s life will be held Friday, January 6, 2012, at 7:00 PM, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will held privately at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to God’s Girls Ministries, 17 Hidenwood Shopping Center Newport News, VA 23606 or a favorite charity.
The family expresses great appreciation to the staff members of Riverside Convalescent Center in Smithfield for the loving care and attention given to Mrs. Sawyer during her time of illness.
The Lord has prepared a homecoming for Pauline, and those family members who have gone before have been anxiously waiting for her arrival. She is no longer restricted by the ties and illnesses of this world and now joins the celebration and reunion.
