Edward Lewis (Louie) Tillman went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 11, 2017. He was born on June 11, 1930 to Wilbert and Ethel Tillman and lived most of his 87 years in the Hampton area. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sybil Stephens Tillman; three children, Karen Cox (David), Delton Tillman, and Deneen Brown (Michael); sister, Judy Frye (Gerald); seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
Louie graduated from Hampton High School and followed his father’s footsteps into the Newport News shipyard. After graduating from the apprentice school in 1952, he worked in the boilermakers shop and after a series of promotions, went on to work as a draftsman and became a senior cost estimator. He retired after 37 years of service.
Louie was a member of Bethel Church where he and Sybil were active for many years. Louie was a common sense thinker; analytical, smart and he loved to tinker on things. He was a certified locksmith. His wit was sharp and so was his mind until the day he died. He will be greatly missed.
