

Elroy Jacob Johnson passed away at Eden Court nursing facility on Sunday, May 25, 2014, after a short battle with lung cancer. Born June 20, 1920, Elroy was one of eleven children born to Andrew and Beatrice Johnson and the oldest resident of Fox Hill, Virginia.
Elroy attended Wythe Jr. High School, and left to work for Wallace Johnson Fishing Company. He was later drafted into the Army in 1942 and headed to Germany with the 36th Army Infantry. Elroy was a POW for eight months in Germany before being honorably discharged on October 26, 1945. While working at Langley Field Printing Press, he met and married Eloise Leonard. He was an honorary member of Fox Hill Hunt Club, as well as a lifetime member of the Fox Hill Fire Dept.
He is survived by his adopted son, Charles “Chuck” Johnson; sisters, Phyllis Dellasanti and Hilda Berry; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Eden Court for their care and concern for Elroy. Thanks also to Robert Cowling and Billy Watkins for their many visits and great friendship.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 29, at 11:00 am at Parklawn Memorial Park.
