Era Lee Saunders

She was retired from the C&P Telephone Co. and was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers. She had also served as a volunteer for the Virginia Living Museum for over 25 years. She enjoyed and served Liberty Baptist Church for over 60 years. Her church life has been the greatest force in her daily living.

Era is preceded in death by her beloved husband, for over 50 years, Archie V. Saunders, her parents Lee and Florence Owens, and a great granddaughter, Cassandra Freeman.

She is survived by her son Archie Lee Saunders, two grandsons, Robert and John Saunders, a granddaughter Erin Hammer and her husband Paul, two great grandchildren William and Moorigan Hammer. She is also survived by four sisters; Joan Henry, Pansy Biddix, Ruth and Husband Bill Brittain, Rebecca and Husband Roger Duckworth all of Morganton, NC and brother, Oliver Owens and wife Jean of Waldorf, MD. In addition there are many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite charity if so desired.
