

Evelyn Burgess Huffman, 94, passed away on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. She was a native of Greensboro, North Carolina and came to the Peninsula in 1943. Evelyn retired from NASA in 1977. She worked for Dynamic Engineering, John McMullen and for a short time, Newport News Shipbuilding as a Designer.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur J. Huffman, and her brother, Rufus Lee Burgess of Pensacola, Florida.
Evelyn was a member of Langley Baptist Church since 1978. She joined the Republican Party City Committee of Hampton in 1980. She was a charter member of James River Cat Fanciers, Chamberlin on the Bay Cat Club and the Color Point Fanciers, Short Hair Fanciers Cat Club of America. She was a member/secretary of the Virginia Cat Fanciers.
Many may remember her for her Siamese cats. For a while she was noted for her red color point Siamese in cat shows. She won many awards and owned the DA-Glo Cattery.
Friends will gather from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a celebration of Evelyn’s life to begin at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Langley Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
