Fred Leroy Seifert, 81, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family. He was born on December 13, 1944, in Oklahoma, to John F. Seifert and Maggie Lara Prisk Seifert.
Fred graduated from Labette County High School in 1962 and immediately began a distinguished and honorable career in the United States Navy on August 8, 1962. He proudly served his country for 26 years, retiring on September 30, 1988 as a Commander Master Chief, U.S. Navy. During his service, he was stationed aboard the USS Parche, the most highly decorated submarine in U.S. Navy history—a testament to the level of excellence and commitment he carried throughout his military career.
In 1979, Fred met the love of his life, Agatha A. Smith. They were married in 1981 and together created a beautiful blended family of eight children. Fred was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his family was truly the center of his world.
After retiring from the Navy, Fred returned to Parsons, Kansas, where he worked at Ron’s IGA and Homeland. Later, he moved to Hampton, Virginia, where he worked alongside his son Loyal at CST until his full retirement September 2024.
Fred had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys. He had a true passion for farming—a love he carried throughout his life and deeply missed in later years. He also enjoyed cooking, often preparing meals that brought his family together, and was an avid NASCAR fan, attending races with his children year after year. He had a special place in his heart for his loving dogs in which he rescued and spoiled.
More than anything, Fred cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Agatha A. Seifert (nee Smith), and his children: John Seifert (Melissa), Denise Torres (Nicole), Loyal Seifert (Karen), Alicia Johnson (Robert), Charmen Strang, Tina Melendez, Eliseo Torres (Marianela), along with his loving 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John F. Seifert and Maggie Lara Prisk Seifert; his brothers, Loyal Seifert and Paul Seifert; his daughter, Korena Seifert; his grandchildren, Cristy Spencer and Jeremy Johnson; and his great-grandson, Tyler Torres.
Fred will be remembered for his strength, his dedication, his sense of humor, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Peninsula SPCA.
The family will receive friends for a Visitation with Military Honors that will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Chapel, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666, on April 10, 2026, from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. United States Navy Honors will be presented at 6:00 pm.
