Glenda Brewer Holt

Glenda Brewer Holt, age 85, completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Born on November 25, 1940 to Loyd Charlie Brewer and Nina Wolfe Brewer, Glenda was raised on a farm in Dandridge, Tennessee. She graduated from Maury High School in Jefferson County in 1958, and she earned her elementary education degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1962. She married her husband of 58 years, Gary Ray Holt, the summer after college graduation, and they moved to Hampton, Virginia to both teach for the Hampton City Public School system. Glenda taught for 38 ½ years in these schools in mostly Hampton: Bethel Elementary (now Forrest), Central Baptist, Denbigh Baptist Christian, Bethel Christian, Emmanuel Lutheran Elementary and Mary Atkins Christian. Her favorite grade to teach was 2nd grade. Glenda’s life involved service to the Lord Jesus Christ. She was a full-time housekeeper in her early years before teaching until 65. She was a choir member, Sunday school teacher, Sunday school clerk, nursery worker, nursery director and deacon’s wife at Bethel Free Will Baptist Church (Hampton) or Faith Free Will Baptist Church (Carrollton). In her post-retirement years she enjoyed being a member of God’s Girls, Women Active for Christ and Community Bible Study. She loved locating items to donate to Care Net Peninsula, as well as completing Eccentrics exercise classes with Tracy Ferguson. Glenda and her husband potted, planted and maintained numerous flowers in the front yard of their Village Green home 0f almost 60 years. She leaves to remember and honor her love for them, a daughter and son-in-law Nolan and Gloria Rudisill of Hampton and a son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Cara Holt of Gloucester. The family will receive friends for a Visitation at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Chapel, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666, on March 24, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Chapel, 2551 North Armistead Ave, Hampton, Virginia 23666, on March 24, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
