Gloria Kaye Greene Sheppard passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family above all else. Her life journey began on October 27, 1945 at Elizabeth Buxton Hospital in Newport News. From the day she went home with her parents, she was a lifelong Hamptonian.
Gloria grew up in the Wythe area of Hampton, making many lifelong friends and graduating from Hampton High School in 1964. It was there that she and Larry became high school sweethearts. She attended CNU, going on to become a proud alumni of William and Mary where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1968. She made great use of her passion for educating by teaching over 20 years, an incredible accomplishment.
On July 14,1968, the high school sweethearts began their 58 year marriage. They raised a beautiful family together with the addition of daughter, Aimee, and son, Larry Jr. Her joy in family continued with each new grandchild. Gloria so loved them all!
All this while, a number of wonderful pets joined the family fold over the years. Two special little dogs, Casey and Sam, held the spots closest to her heart.
Everyone who knew Gloria could tell she loved her family, springtime because of the flowers, the beach, shopping, cleaning the house, watching HGTV, problem solving games, and sitting alone quietly reading. She loved chocolate, funny movies, petting dogs, and visiting with family.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Frances Greene.
Left to cherish Gloria’s memory are her husband, Larry, daughter Aimee (Chris), son Larry Jr. (Alison), grandchildren Kellylynn, Wyatt, Kyle, and Charlotte, and brother E.L. (Diane).
In a private ceremony, Gloria will be buried at Parklawn Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the wonderful Team Members of The Chesapeake, Cornerstone, and Wings Over Virginia Hospice for their support and the loving care provided during the past five years. We are grateful for the services of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be given in her memory to Edmarc, a family-centered home-health and hospice for children with life-threatening illnesses. They can be found at Edmarc, Inc. 516 London Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704 or at edmarc.org.
