

He retired as a DEMAC (Deck Mechanical Engineer) with the Merchant Marines after a career spanning forty years. During World War II he served under the umbrella of the United States Navy. He was a member of the NMU and the O’Hara Chapter of the Merchant Marines located in New York.
He was a member of the United Methodist faith and was a member of the Seaman’s Church in New York. He was also a member of the Suriname American League.
Surviving members of his family include his wife, Madzy Monsanto; children, Armando DeFreitas, Judy Brandt, John DeFreitas, Moriah Adams, Reynold DeFreitas, and Sandra Lotenfoe; grandchildren and great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, September 22, 2012, at 11:00 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Inurnment, with military honors, will be in Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens following the memorial service.
