Harvey Lee Hunter was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Charles and Catherine Hunter. He was the youngest of three boys and had a love and a zeal for life. He was raised in Brooklyn and educated in the public school system. He loved all of the cultural activities that the city offered. He studied black history and was a collector of African art. Harvey loved all kinds of music, especially Jazz and R&B. He enjoyed dancing and was always a sharp dresser.
Harvey was a kind, giving, and loving person who would help anyone in need.
He loved people and his family was precious to him. In our home there was always love and laughter. He was an encourager and made everyone he met feel special. He met and married the love of his life, Maureen Trotman on May 25, 1974. Together they raised one son, Jamal Jarreau.
He served in the United States Navy for four years. He attended Bridge Street, AME Church along with his wife. He worked for Credit Suisse Corporation. Upon his retirement, they relocated to Virginia.
He struggled with illness, but never complained and always had a positive attitude. When his burden became too much to bear, God called him by name and delivered him from the cares of this world. On Tuesday, June 13, 2023, God dispatched angels to escort him home.
He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife, Maureen; one son, Jamal; six grandchildren: Jamauri, Marquis, Jamaine, Raena, Mekhi, Mikael; one great-grandson, Jamali; one brother, Melvin Hunter (Juanita); three sisters: Barbara (Russell), Lorraine (Larry), and Juanita; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Harvey also had another brother, Curtis, and two sisters, Loretta and Gracie, who preceded him in death.
We loved him, but God loved him more.
