

He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on December 26,1926. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. During WWII he rose rapidly thru the enlisted ranks, reaching the highest enlisted grade of 1st Sgt at age 19. At the onset of the Korean War, he was offered, and accepted a direct commission as 1st Lt.
He entered Navigator Bombardier School in 1952, graduating in 1953. This was the start of his flying career which involved Tactical Bombers B-45, B-57, and RB-66 culminating with C-1 30's in Viet Nam. Later in his career, he served at all levels of command to include Division, Numbered AF, and Major Command (HQ TAC).
He retired at Langley AFB, in May 1975, with over 30 years of service. Following retirement, he attended Thomas Nelson Community College, graduating Suma Cum Laude, with an associate degree in education. He was a lifetime member of The Military Officers Association of America. In his retirement he enjoyed golf, bowling, and dancing. He was an avid Redskin, and VA TECH fan.
He always said that he considered himself fortunate to have had two wonderful women in his life. His first wife for 44 1/2 years, and present wife, Diane, for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Massman; first wife, Thelma Meyerpeter; son, Michael Meyerpeter; stepson, John Andersen; grandson, Stephen Andersen; and brother, Gilbert Meyerpeter.
He is survived by wife, Janice Diane Meyerpeter; stepdaughter, Nancy R. Merritt; son, David Meyerpeter and wife, Rebecca; stepson, Ken Turnage and wife, Terri; 8 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, May 13, 2016 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Harvey’s life will be held immediately following at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment with full honors by the U.S. Air Force to be rendered at Parklawn Memorial Park.
