Irma Mae Youngblood was a loving wife, mother, “Gran”, “GG”, and friend. The Lord called her home peacefully on Thursday, July 21st at home with family. She was born in Fluvanna County, Virginia to Harrison Clements and Emily E. Gardner before moving to Hampton, Virginia as a young child.
She enjoyed supporting her husband serving his country for 20 years as an Air Force wife. and raising her children across the world to include Japan, Taiwan and Hawaii, ultimately returning to Hampton, Virginia.
She was the epitome of a proud and loving “Gran” even to non-family members. A great portion of her life was spent doting over her grandchildren and their friends, as many days were spent at Busch Gardens, Water Country, crabbing, various other outings, and playing in her playroom/backyard. Her love of family only grew larger when she became “GG” to five beautiful great-grandchildren, all of whom she thought the world of.
Outside of caring for her family, Irma worked at TPMG Family Practice of Hampton Roads as a medical receptionist, but not on Thursdays as you could find her at Century Lanes bowling alley playing on the “Early Bird” league. Irma loved watching all sports, especially college basketball (“Go TarHeels!”), going to the beach, and attending country music concerts. Irma was a devout Christian and member of Fox Hill Road Baptist Church.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her son Alvis (“Buddy”) E. Youngblood, Jr. (Kelly) of Aldi, Virginia; daughters Donna L. McCord of Hampton, Virginia and Janet L. Youngblood (Tony Efaw) of Hampton, Virginia; grandson Dennis Wayne Youngblood (Kim) of Charlotte, North Carolina; granddaughters Michele J. Jonczak (Jason) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Kara L. Plank (Matt) of Hampton, Virginia; great-grandsons Fraser Youngblood, and Holden and Hayes Jonczak; great-granddaughters Violet Youngblood and Emery Jonczak; special friends for life Lena and Taylor Bain of Jacksonville, Florida; and “GRAN”daughters, Kayla and Kelsey Davis of Newport News, VA.
Her family draws comfort in believing she is reunited in Heaven with her husband of more than 50 years, Alvis “Bud” E. Youngblood, her parents, and members of the Clements Fabulous and Fiesty Four; James, Robert, and Louise.
The family would like to thank family friends, Dr. Richard B. and Frankye McAdam, Dr. Jana Nussen and Adina of TPMG Family Practice of Hampton Roads, and the Paramedics from Hampton Fire & Rescue Station #7 for their assistance and care.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, July 24th at 1:00 p.m. with Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 p.m., immediately followed by a Graveside Service at Parklawn Memorial Park in Hampton, VA.
Memorial gifts may be made in Irma’s name to Hampton Fire & Rescue Station #7 located at 176 Fox Hill Road, Hampton, VA 23669.
