

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leland Landis Staton and Frances Inez Hamlet-Staton; and sister-in-law, Nancy Wright Staton.
Mr. Staton worked at Newport News Shipyard for many years as a welder and then became a business owner until he became disabled.
He enjoyed many things in his life and never met a stranger; he was a real people person. He loved watching his grandson, George play baseball, watching his grandson, Michael tell jokes and loved his granddaughter, Lyndsey to come over and bake him Rice Krispy treats. In his younger years, car racing was his hobby and passion.
Mr. Staton is survived by his two children which he adored, James Michael Staton and wife, Penny, and Debra "Debi" Denise Staton-Liberty; three grandchildren, George E. Liberty, Jr., James Michael Staton, Jr. and Lyndsey Lauren Liberty; three step-grandchildren, Courtney Irick, Shawn Adkins, and Chris Adkins; and two step-great-grandchildren, Nevin Lee and Shaylin Britt; four brothers, Ronnie Staton, Larry Staton and wife, Susan, Stewart Staton and wife, Linda, and Craig Staton; and two former wives, Linda Dean Staton and Ruby Staton who were lifelong friends.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home on Friday, October 28, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. by Pastor Joe Hunt, with visitation following the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at Old Point National Bank in the name of "Jimmy Staton Memorial Fund."
