Born and raised in England, Janet married the love of her life, Gerald, and moved to the United States when the Air Force brought them stateside. She was devoted to her family, and her favorite title was “Nan.” Her love was boundless, often shared through wise words and a delicious meal.
Janet was a faithful member of Wallace Memorial United Methodist Church. She cherished the life she built with Gerald and spoke often of the deep love and happy years they shared. She enjoyed shopping, lunches with her daughter Vicky, and spending time with her great-grandchildren — nothing brought her greater joy than watching them grow and thrive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Rummel; son, Wayne Rummel; and brothers Gary Stewart and Bill Stewart. She is survived by her daughter, Vicky Tolson (Edward); grandchildren Christopher Campbell (Jennifer), Ryan Campbell (Heather), and Louise Rummel; and great-grandchildren Roy, Victoria, Christian, Chloe, Aidan, and Caleb.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the nurses who cared for Nan in her final weeks. Your compassion, gentleness, and dedication brought comfort and peace to both her and our family.
The family welcomes friends and loved ones on Wednesday, September 24, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home. During the visitation, Rev. Herbert Brynildsen Jr. will lead a brief service for anyone wishing to share memories. A graveside service will be held Thursday, September 25, at 3 p.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Newport News ASPCA or The Alzheimer's Association.
