

Joe Lester Dudney peacefully departed this life on Friday, September 13, 2013 at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, VA. He was a resident of Hampton since 1955. Joe retired after 37 years of service in the X18 Welding Dept. at Newport News Shipbuilding. He was also in the maintenance department at Hampton Roads Testing for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Faye Dean Dudney; two sons, Keith Dudney (Lisa) of Newport News, VA and Kevin Dudney (Melissa) of Spring Grove, VA; four grandchildren, Justin Dudney, Christopher Dudney, Kristen Dudney, and Holly Dudney; three great-grandchildren, Collier, Parker, and Brandon; one brother, Tom Dudney (Arlene) of Fairfax, VA; two sisters, Evelyn (David) of Wallace, N.C. and Lottie Greene of Cerro Gordo, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Nance Dudney; father, Kermit Dudney; two brothers, Fulton Dudney and Samuel Dudney; three sisters, Thelma McCaskill, Christine Hatchett, and Mildred Blackwell.
Joe was a member of Cerro Gordo Methodist Church, the Mariners Club, and the Warwick Moose Lodge.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, Sept. 22, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Sentara Careplex in Hampton, VA for all the wonderful care he was given.
