

John was born in Troy, NY on December 4, 1935. He served his country honorably for 24 years in the USAF. He spent a good part of his career flying heads of state to various parts of the country. He was a Flight Chief for H-IN and HH34 helicopters. In addition, he was an advisor to the Royal Thai Air Force, Southeast Asia, with special assignments to Greenland, Darian Gap, Panama and Turkey. Medals included Air Medal, Joint Services Commendation Medal, and Air Force Commendation Medal.
As a civilian employee, he served several Logistics Manager positions for government contracts. He was a hard worker and devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Virginia Irene Gallagher. Also surviving are his son, Rob Gallagher; two daughters, Terry Gallagher and Lonnie Gallagher; two step-daughters, Dianna Raley and Melody Clark; step-son, Christopher Crowley; brothers, Robert Gallagher of Troy, NY, Michael Gallagher of California; sister, Lorraine Kazan of North Carolina; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
