Joseph Arthur Ahl, 49, of Hampton, Virginia, passed away December 12, 2021, unexpectedly due to complications with illness. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, August 30, 1972, to the late Joseph and Lois (Dixon) Ahl.
Joe worked his entire career in the intelligence sector and was a part of the 480 ISRW family in various capacities for the majority of it. Joe loved to travel and was always open to new adventures. He wanted to retire in his favorite mountains and take a road trip across the US so he could visit all the states. He shared his love of this as well as computers, gaming, and sports with anyone who would listen. He was a believer in giving back and helping those less fortunate. He would be ready with a quip or up for a prank at any time but would also drop everything to be there in times of need. As an organ donor, he even helped someone after his death. He will be missed more than he could have ever imagined.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Ahl; siblings William Boswell (Karen), Deborah Miller (Chris), Diane Clark, Kimberly Bowling, Connie Keefer; first cousins Craig Leary (Kathy), Neil Leary (Pam), and Karen Davis; in-laws Michael Largena (Bonnie), Gerald Paxton, Jr. (Michelle), Christopher Largena, Susan Barba; nephew Allen Paxton; and several more cousins and extended family.
Joe was also preceded in death by grandparents Howard and Anna Ahl, and Orville and Mable Dixon; aunts and uncles Lorraine Hawes (Chuck), Charlotte Brown (Bud), and Bernice Leary (Edward), Barbara Dixon; first cousin and godmother Janis Kuska; and other extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 18, 2021, at Parkview Baptist Church, 604 Hilton Blvd, Newport News, Virginia 23605, with reception to follow. Attendees are encouraged dress in casual festive attire to celebrate his favorite holiday, Christmas.
Memorial donations may made in his name to your favorite charity or consider giving blood to the American Red Cross in his honor.
