My sister Joyce & I loved to go to Joe & Mima's at his Newport Square location in 1973, I was only 17 then and loved the food and Joe was always so happy and friendly, we always enjoyed talking to him, our condolence's to his family.

I wanted to write this sooner, but was very busy, my sister and I used to go to the Joe & Mima's at the 1970's location in Newport News, we would make that our lunch stop when we were out shopping. I was only 17 at the time and Joe made us felt right at home and we would have fun chats with him, we were so sorry to hear of his sudden passing, and our condolence's to his family.

I met Joe in the mid 70's when he and his family became customers of our family foodservice business.  Joe was a hard-working, honorable, ethical, and fair man and businessman with a great personality.  His character and traits were magnetic, helping him to build a solid and successful business.  He and that winning smile will be missed.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family.

I am sure my father was there to greet his dear old friend. Our love and prayers to Pam and the rest of the family from Big Franks Family.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Joe's passing and so painfully sorry that I just learned of the memorial service a day late.  Joe was special, and his kindness and generosity were legendary.  Joe's smile and Joe's indelible memory will live on forever in my heart.  God bless you Giuseppe!

He was one of the best men I ever knew!  My sister, me and my son all worked for him over the years,  He was kind and treated everyone like family.  He will be missed!  Our thoughts and prayers are with Pam and family.

I remember having many lunches at Joe & Mimma's in the Newport Square Shopping Center, as me and my coworkers used to work at Murphy"s Mart.  You always felt like family when you were there.  Prayers to your family as we know you will miss him very much, but what a legacy of love he is leaving behind.

So sorry for your loss! We have known Joe for years and he was such a great man. We are so grateful we had the pleasure to see him for the last time surrounded by family and friends on the last days of his restaurant being opened. As we left, we wished him well and he us as well. He seemed so happy seeing everyone. He always smiled when he saw us and ask us how we were doing. A fond memory we will have of him.

There is a special place in my heart that will always belong to Joe. He treated me like one of his own children, and had an influence on who I became as an adult. His kindness, compassion, and humor lives on in his daughters and grandchildren; because of this, we will always have a piece of him here with us.

I am so very sorry for your loss, Joe was the sweetest man and Pam I am truly sorry your family has lost him.  I know he will be dearly missed.

I met Joe during my first visit to the Newport Square restaurant in 1979. I was 15 and remembered how it reminded me of NYC. Joe was all smiles and we struck up a conversation. And every time thereafter, he made it a habit to say hello whenever I frequented either restaurant. His engaging smile and personality made his restaurants special, and many of us loyal customers. I was grateful to have met him on the last day of business on June 25th of this year. My condolences and prayers to the family and friends of this wonderful man during this time of sadness.

My husband and I began eating there when it was over in the other shopping , 
Same thing just about every Friday night. Never saw him without a big smile and a warm hello. Watched the girls grow up and become moms themselves, ....great guy he will be truly missed.
