Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle and the life of that candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreased by being shared. In our hearts forever, with great sadness, we announce the passing of Judy B. Harrell, March 30, 1951-July 5, 2023. Memories of her will be kept by all touched by her beautiful and loving spirit.
She was born in Newport News, Virginia, and a resident of the Hampton Roads area for most of her adult life. As a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church (Newport News, Virginia), she was pivotal in development of the "Oil Press" newsletter and served on the hospitality and other committees. Her career was rooted in service and love. She retired from Eastern State Hospital, where she was the librarian. Judy's compassion for the patients filled them with hope. Many said they felt cared for in the library, and it was their favorite place.
Loving mother of Troy Tucker (April), Camisha Belle, and Donald Belle (LaToya), she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce W. Harrell as well as her parents, William and Alfredia Beverly. She is survived by her brothers William, Jr. (Joyce), Eugene (Connie), and Rodney (Josette) and much loved by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many cherished friends and family members.
Special gratitude is given to the staff of Hampton Family Practice, Virginia Oncology Associates, and Sentara CarePlex for their compassionate care.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.parklawn-woodfh.com for the Harrell family.
