Katherine Axtell Vest

“Kathy” as she was affectionately known was born June 4, 1937 in Sodus New York. She married Stuart Vest on December 3, 1955 at the age of 18 and was happily married for 52 years until his passing in 2008.

Kathy was a military spouse traveling with her family until they finally retired in Poquoson VA. She worked as a childcare provider outside the home while raising her family.

She was a woman of deep faith with a strong belief in God. She loved sewing, cooking and gardening and seemed to be happiest when spending time with family, working on crafts and watching her Redskins play.

Kathy is predeceased in death by her parents Willis and Doris Axtell and husband Stuart Vest.

She leaves behind five children Tad (Kristie) Vest, Tim Vest, Stuart (Roswitha) Vest, Chris Vest and Teresa Crawford. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

A visitation will take place on Friday March 13, 2026 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at Parklawn Wood Funeral Home, located at 2551 N. Armistead Ave, Hampton VA 23666 with a funeral service immediately following. A committal service will take place at 1:00 PM at Parklawn Memorial Park.
