

Lawrence "Larry" Dixon was born on February 5, 1931, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was educated in the public school system there and graduated from Kelly Miller School. After graduation, Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country for twenty years. He was stationed in several places, to include the USA, the Philippines, Korea, and Japan. Notably, while stationed in Maine, he met and later married the love of his life, Frances Dixon in 1969. Upon leaving the military, Larry worked for the United States Postal Service for over twenty years before retiring.
Mr. Dixon/Larry was baptized at an early age, and often declared his love and thankfulness to The Lord for the many blessings, miracles and gifts of this life. He was a longtime member of Ames United Methodist Church in Bel Air, MD before relocating to Georgia in 2021. There, he joined Fairfield Baptist Church for the remainder of his life.
Larry greatly enjoyed bowling, sports and sharing his barbequing skills with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his renowned fried potatoes, and the fried chicken he was easily coaxed to prepare especially for his beloved grandchildren, to whom he was also a “homework coach”.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, James Dixon; mother Louvenia Rucker; one brother, James Rucker; one sister, Tennie Mae Belton.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and best friend, Frances Dixon; three children Glorya Roberts Phipps (Luke); James Roberts (Danetta); Patricia McDaniel (John).
Three grandchildren: James Andrew Roberts, Alanna McDaniel and Ian McDaniel.
Two nephews: Leon Belton (Joan); Howard Belton (Mamie); one niece, Vivian Blackburn, and a host of other friends and loved ones.
Two special dogs: Joey, and his “main girl” Violet who served as guard dog, blanket, buddy, comforter and companion.
Honorary children and grandchildren Catlett and Joycelyn Harrison (Cayla and Kira), Steve and Zoubeida Ounaies Carpenter (Ranya), and Philip and Lauretta Halstead.
Mr. Dixon, Brother Dixon, Lawrence, Larry, Papa, Papa Larry: You will be loved, remembered and missed ALWAYS.
