

Lawrence A. Keithley, Sr., 81, was carried by the angels into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, August 21, 2011. He was born April 15, 1930 and a native of Hampton. He had been a Yorktown resident for the past 13 years. In 1992 he retired, after 34 years of dedicated service from the QID department of Newport News Shipbuilding. His life was one of dedication to his family, and his marriage of 61 years to the love of his life set the example for his three sons. Lawrence dearly loved serving the Lord and attending fellowships with his Adult Bible Class at Liberty Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Betty”; sons Larry and wife Charlotte of Gloucester; Tom and wife Virginia of Yorktown; Jim and wife Laura of Yorktown; sister Ann Watson and husband Tom of Williamsburg; and niece Ruth Goss and husband Michael of NC. He was blessed with seven grandchildren, Jason and wife Amanda, Rick, Rachel, Matt and wife Margaret, Paul and wife Sophie, Sarah and husband Cliff and Megan; five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Hannah, Walker, Jostin and Jennings; and grand-nephew Michael David Goss.
Lawrence, affectionately called “Pop, Papa, or Poppies” left behind his faithful companion, Sonny, who is lost without his master.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Friends are invited to visit with the family immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in Lawrence's memory to the "Changing Lives Building Campaign” at Liberty Baptist Church, 1021 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA 23666.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day and to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
