

The Seymour family relocated to Hampton, Virginia during World War II and Linwood and his siblings attended Copeland Park Elementary, where he met Emma Jean Nelson. Linwood and Jean attended Wythe Junior High School together and both graduated from Hampton High School in 1952. Linwood and Jean were married in 1957 at Copeland Park Baptist Church.
Linwood worked in various jobs, including serving two years active duty in the U.S. Army, before furthering his education at the College of William and Mary. He graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Linwood returned to Hampton High School in 1961 where he taught Math and Physics during his 30-year career. Linwood’s love for the game of golf led him to serve as coach for the Hampton High School golf team.
Upon retirement, Linwood pursued his life-long interests including fishing, gardening, and playing golf. He particularly enjoyed spending time with his friends and fellow retirees, the SOBs.
Linwood is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean N. Seymour; son, L. Scott Seymour (Carol); daughter, Kimberly S. Powell; four grandchildren, Megan Powell, Jennifer Powell, Taylor Seymour, and Thomas Seymour; and two granddaughters, Rylie Lynn and Lilie Eileen.
Linwood is preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters Shirley Reed and Loyce Sherman. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Hampton. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m.
