Lonnie Alfred “Cootie” Scoggin, 75, ended his journey on September 21, 2014 and is beginning a new journey. He resided in Hampton, Virginia for over 48 years where he retired from the NNSY. Cootie was an active volunteer at Hampton Sentara Medical Hospital for many years in which he was happy to serve and support.
Cootie was a loving and caring husband, father, brother, as well as grandfather and great-grandfather. He was truly loved and respected by all who knew him, especially his family. Family and friends meant everything to Cootie. It is difficult to describe a man that enjoyed life so much. He loved to laugh and enjoyed life to the fullest. Fishing, woodworking and fixing anything that was broken were his joys. He was always there to lend a helping hand to a friend or stranger. His favorite saying was “whatever”, and you knew when you heard those words everything was good to go. He will be remembered forever by his family and friends.
Surviving members include his loving wife of 51 years, Deena Heaster Scoggin, his daughters, Sabrina D. Tucker and husband Aaron, Kimberly D. Upchurch and husband Timothy, and Shanna S. Reid and husband Jon; grandchildren, Katelyn A. Shannon and husband Travis, Joshua T. Upchurch, Jeffrey “Hunter” Liddington, Virginia “Ginny” Rhea Reid, and Ailyn J.
