Lucy Holman Orr

Lucy Holman Orr, age 79, of Yorktown, passed away in peace with her children by her side on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. She was born March 13, 1933 and grew up in Claremont, New Hampshire. While serving her country in the Navy, she married Bill Ray Orr. They moved to Virginia in 1959.

Lucy was preceded in death by her loving parents, Merrill Miner Dodge and Famie Jane Johnson Dodge of New Hampshire and her sister, Nancy Dow of Rhode Island. She is survived by her three children, Chris Orr and his wife, Sherry, Nancy Orr, and Suzanne Elizabeth Orr; her two grandchildren, Jason Blanks, and Teresa Orr Bonavita and her husband, JJ Jr.; brothers, Merrill Dodge and wife, Dottie, and Dallas Dodge and wife, Terry; along with a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Lucy lived her life with incredible gusto! She was passionate about serving her country, her family, and her community. Lucy earned advanced degrees from both Hampton University and the University of Virginia, and was a Certified Nurse Practitioner. She retired from Eastern State Hospital and the Veterans Affairs Hospital. In retirement she devoted much of her time to her family and friends, gardening, and love of animals.

A Celebration of Lucy's life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 9 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peninsula SPCA or your favorite animal charity are recommended.
