In 1976 he retired as a pilot from the U.S. Air Force after a career spanning over 20 years. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
Surviving members of his family include his wife of fifty-five years, Ruth K. Dickson; children, Richard W. Dickson and wife Karen S. White of Rockwood, TN, Jane A. Dryden of Portsmouth, VA, and Carol D. Moore of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Jamie A. Dryden and Jennavieve M. Dickson.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 pm on Friday, July 5, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, with a graveside service to follow at 2:30 at Parklawn Memorial Park with military honors.
