Ms. Mulkey was preceded in death by her husband William “Billy” Mulkey, daughter Martha Hope Napier, brother Calvin Holcombe, sisters Lucille Hawkins Hood, and Madellon Rogers. She is survived by her son Luther William Mulkey (Janeau), daughter Shanan May LaFlam (Jack), son John David Mulkey (Mark), son Bruce Shelton Mulkey (Lori), son-in-law Tommy Napier, and sister Roberta Gabor. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and countless nieces, nephews, and friends. "Granny" was loved greatly by her family and friends and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Ms. Mulkey was born September 9, 1933, in Salem, South Carolina to Thomas William Holcombe and Ella Mae (Littleton) Holcombe. After being orphaned at a young age she was blessed to have so many to call family and often expressed how lucky she was. She resided in York County for over 60 years. She was Granny to all. When grocery shopping, she would often be happily interrupted by someone calling out “Hi Granny” from not a grandchild, but a friend made along the way. She was a longtime member at Denbigh Christian Church where she enjoyed services, bible studies, and meeting her friends in the church library after Sunday service.
The Mulkey family would like to thank Dr. Jeffrey Harris, Nurse Donna, and staff at TPMG Yorktown, Bon Secours Mary Immaculate medical staff, and Hospice staff for all their tender care for their Mom.
Please join the family and celebrate Ms. Mulkey’s life Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666. The family will be receiving friends during a visitation at 1:00 pm, Chapel Service on-site at 2 pm, followed by a 3 pm interment at Parklawn Memorial Park.
