Mary “Janie” was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Carl Vernon Davis; daughters, Carolyn Dickerson, Beverly “Bev” Wyatt and son, Richard “Ricky” Davis; great-granddaughter, Jenna Romonoski; sons-in law, David Goetz and Andy Pigsley, as well as her parents, John and Mae Hinchey and siblings, Blair, Hulan “Bud”, Marvin, Don, Garnett, Jimmy and Wilma Hinchey, and Lois Rollins.
Originally from Meadowview, Virginia, Mary “Janie” married her husband, Carl “Vernon” and raised her family in Hampton, Virginia. She drove a school bus for many years and then worked as a Supervisor of the Janitorial Maintenance Division at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company from which she retired. Her remaining years were spent enjoying her much loved children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, loving on her “bestest” kitties and tending to her many indoor and outdoor plants.
Mary “Janie” was always the quiet and unassuming side kick to her jocular husband, but she was also her family’s rock. She was the sweetest and most caring Wife, Momma and Meemaw her family could ever hope for. We rejoice in her reunion with her Lord and family in heaven.
Many thanks to her caregiver, Jennifer Nooner and the staff at Amedysis Home Health/Hospice, especially Esther Wambu-Anderson and Kendra Batten; and to her granddaughters, Gabrielle and Olivia for helping their Meemee and PopPop care for her.
Special thanks to her daughter Janet “Bebo” and Janet’s husband, Howard “Bubba” Wilson, for their devoted and compassionate care of Meemaw during the last five years of her life. We cannot express enough gratitude for allowing her to remain in the comfort of your home during those years and helping with her transition to her heavenly abode.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, Friday, March 24, 2023, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Interment will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Parklawn Memorial Park.
