

Mary Elizabeth Washington, age 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Aug 16, 2025. She was born on August 29, 1937 in Nashville NC to the late Charlie Sr., and Mamie Battle. Mary was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Mary Michael, Mattie Chapman, Doretha Carver, Charlie Battle, Thelma Berry son – Terrance Williams, and great grandson – Ka’vohn Davis .
Throughout her life, Mary was known for her unwavering support as a military spouse, a role she embraced with grace and strength. Her ability to adapt and provide stability for her family during times of change was truly remarkable. Her commitment to family extended into her professional life as a dedicated daycare provider, where she nurtured and guided countless young minds leaving a lasting impact on children and their families. Mary’s love for cooking and ceramics brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity. Her culinary skills were celebrated by all who had the pleasure of sitting at her table, where meals were not just about nourishment but also about bringing people together.
While in Germany Mary became a member of the “Eastern Star”. Once Mary returned to the States she was employed by Riverside Hospital and Howmet Aerospace, as a custodian technician until retirement.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Marcellus William (Rosalind), Douglas Williams, and four bonus sons , Daniel Shanelli Butler, Luther Palmgren, Reginald Carpenter, and Kimba Clemmons. Grandchildren – Antonio, Lakeshia, Terrance, Jermaine (Karissa), Terrence W, Ashleigh, Marcellus II, Tamica, Tiffanie, Addrianna, Jerel, Shantasia , Kresten; Special friends of the family, Mary Carr and Sharon Pope, and a host of relatives, and friends.
A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Temple, 1703 Aspenwood Dr., Hampton, VA 23666. A celebration of life will occur Friday, September 5, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:10 PM, 1703 Aspenwood Dr., Hampton, VA 23666. An interment to follow the service will occur Friday, September 5, 2025 at 12:30 PM at Hampton Memorial Gardens, 155 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, Virginia 23666. A repast to follow services will occur Friday, September 5, 2025 after the burial, Sixth Mt. Zion Baptist Temple, 1703 Aspenwood Dr., Hampton, VA 23666.
