

BMC (SW/SCW) Michael L. Birtcher, 41, a native of Napoleon, Ohio, lost his fight with cancer on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was a proud CHIEF in the U.S. NAVY and served our country bravely for 24 years. In speaking to his integrity, even at his perceived weakest, he was “The Chief”, always supporting and strengthening others. His legacy lives on in the NAVY with his amazing contributions and the solid path he paved for countless present and future Sailors. Our heart-filled thank you to so many who have given their love and support.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Cheryl Collins Birtcher; and brothers, Frederick and Daniel Birtcher.
He is survived by his devoted wife Rebecca, daughter Clarice, father Kermit “Duke” and sister Jennifer and her husband Craig; two nieces; one nephew and “Brothers and Sisters of the Chief’s Mess”.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Michael's life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow with full U.S. Navy Military Honors in Parklawn Memorial Park.
