

Patricia Pearson Sunday, 92, of Newport News, VA, passed Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Patricia (Pat) was born near Dickerson, MD, on March 11, 1933 to the late Joseph Berkeley and Dorothy V. (Moxley) Pearson. She was the beloved wife of Paul Clinton Sunday whom she married on June 8, 1952 and had a wonderful marriage for 73 years.
Pat grew up on a farm as the oldest of five siblings. After graduating from Frederick High School in 1951, she began working for Ritchie & Associates until her daughter was born. After staying home for a number of years, she returned to work as a receptionist for Dr. Schaden’s Veterinary Clinic. In 1978, she began work at the Frederick County Commission on Aging where she retired as the Assistant Director in 1997.
In addition to her devoted husband Paul, she is survived by her daughter Ann Sunday Michael, son-in-law James Moxley Michael, Jr. and granddaughter Katherine Ann Michael. She is also survived by her siblings Shirley Thompson and Sam Pearson and sister-in-law Gail Pearson. Additionally, she is survived by her husband’s cousin Carol Ann Parks as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Margaret Everly and brother Joseph Pearson, brother-in-law Joe Thompson and Paul’s cousin Anita Massey.
Prior to moving to Newport News in 2015, Pat was an active member of Evangelical Reformed Church, United Church of Christ (ERUCC). She had
served as the first women president of the Consistory in 1977. In later years, she helped to develop a welcome table to greet visitors and enjoyed the close relationships she made being part of a circle, book club and traveling on mission trips.
She had also served as the President of the Junior Woman’s Club of Frederick in 1964 where she developed many lifelong friendships. After retirement she was a docent at the Civil War Museum in Frederick.
The family would like to express their thanks for the loving care that she received from the staff of Warwick Forest Assisted Living, Piedmont Memory Care and the wonderful companions and caregivers from the Visiting Angels.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Warwick Forest in Burton Hall, Keswick Building on Saturday, February 7th at 3:00 pm. with Deborah Dail, Senior Pastor of Denbigh United Presbyterian Church officiating.
