

She was affectionately known as the “gatekeeper” for Northampton Pool and the “bookstore lady” at Bethel High School for over 30 years as well as a being a member of the Colonial Chapter of the Eastern Star and the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her husband Southgate L.Butt, Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Shelia B. Plank and her husband Terry of Valentines, VA and Terry B. Brubaker and her husband Craig of Hampton; daughter-in-law Carol Faye Morgan and her husband Dugan of Norfolk. She is also survived by five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Breea Staton and her husband Ray and great grandchild Bailey of Richmond, T.R. Plank and his wife Alexis of Groton, CT and great grandchildren Samantha and Austin, Brian Brubaker and his wife Beth of Richmond, Brad Brubaker of Chicago, and Richard Butt and his wife Michelle of Parkton, MD and great grandchildren Jackson and Peyton; and her cousin and dearest friend Joyce Brittingham of Yorktown.
A service celebrating Phyllis’ life will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:00, at Parklawn –Wood Funeral Home. Following the service, the family will receive friends until 4:00 at the funeral home.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation in her memory to First Church of Christ, Scientist, 2808 Kecoughtan Road, Hampton, VA 23661-3038.
