Phyllis Jean Meadows

Phyllis was born on May 29, 1930, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to Harold T. Taylor and Edna M. Hill Taylor. After graduating from high school, she studied business courses at Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, for three years. Phyllis then moved back to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she graduated from the prestigious Jefferson Medical College Hospital School of Nursing and began a career as a registered nurse.

Phyllis later traveled to Puebla, Mexico, where she met the love of her life, Jim, while there to interview for a position as head nurse at her future father-in-law’s hospital. They were married six months later. Her marriage to Jim was the beginning of her life as a military wife. They lived at various duty stations across the United States and overseas.

Their last military duty assignment brought them to Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA, where Phyllis continued her career as a registered nurse at Hampton General Hospital. She worked as an RN in the Coronary Care Unit and was later promoted to RN Shift Coordinator for the hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of over 68 years, James S. Meadows.

Phyllis is survived by her four children: Jim (Pam) of Poquoson, VA; Steve (Christine) of Virginia Beach, VA; Pamela of Charlottesville, VA; and Dave (Debbie) of Daytona Beach, FL. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Chris, Sam, Mark, Dusty, and Dylan; two step-grandchildren: Chris and Dara; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elaine Woznek; three nieces, and one nephew.

Visitation service with the family will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., followed by a graveside service at Parklawn Memorial Park at 1:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served during visitation in the funeral home’s reception hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Red Cross, Easterseals, or Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse.
