Randy, the second child of eight, was born to Margaret and John Pritchett on January 3, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents and four of his siblings.
Randy was educated in the public school system in Hampton, where he graduated from Phoenix High School. He went on to serve in the United States military in both the Navy and Air Force branches and was later in the Air Force Reserve. Randy was also a veteran of both Vietnam and the Gulf wars. He retired after 31 years of combined military service. In addition, he spent many years working for the New York City Transit Authority, and later the Norfolk Naval Air Station.
Randy's wit, humor, and brilliance were infectious, from going on top of his childhood home to fool his younger siblings that Santa Clause had arrived, to sharing music with his older siblings. Everyone looked forward to celebrations and holiday gatherings at Randy's. His home was always open and inviting. He "hung out" with his cousin Rudolph and reached out to distant relatives estranged from the family.
Randy was also a beloved friend to his younger nieces, nephews, and cousins, one of whom nicknamed him "Uncle Elmo" because he always made them laugh. He was also known as “Uncle” or “Uncle Patches” by his niece-daughter.
Randy's creativity abounded. His home displayed his talents: handmade African masks and original artwork, home remodeling and execution, drumming, music, and the model airplanes that he made and often entered in air shows at Langley Air Force Base. Randy captured the essence of a well-rounded man and loved peanuts.
Randy accepted Christ at an early age. He was a loving, caring, and unselfish husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Randy is survived by his wife Graciela, sons Erick (Tennille) of Surprise, Arizona, and Bryan of Puyallup, Washington; four granddaughters Afrika, Napayshni, Vashti, and Hadassa; sisters Loretta Pritchett of Harrisburg, NC, Patricia Harrison of Charlotte, NC, and Judy Pritchett of Gloucester, VA, along with great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
