

Born on April 20, 1932 in Johnstown, PA. She was surrounded by her loved ones before she passed.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Donald B. Shortt; parents, Alex and Rosella Viel; sisters, Frances Cernuto, Edna Yurasko, and Alba Verbano; brothers, William Viel and Fred Viel; daughter, Donna Shortt; son, Patrick Shortt; and granddaughters, Hannah Rising, Danielle Rising and Amber D’Angelo.
She is survived by her brother, Al Viel of Johnstown, PA; children; daughters, Terry (Dean) Schap of Ponchatoula, LA, Krissy (Andy) Williams of Portsmouth, VA; sons, Mark (Brenda) Shortt of Toano, VA, Timmy (Cindy) Shortt of Seaford, VA. Grandchildren; David (Nicole) Schap, Brandi D’Angelo, Heather (Justin) Mueller, Beth (Daniel) McIlvain, Brittney (Ryan) Adney, Ashton Shortt and Patrick Shortt. Great-grandchildren; Taylor Mueller, Camden Mueller, Colton Mueller, Rylie Adney, Ellie McIlvain, Marlee McIlvain, Olivia Schap, Wesley Adney, Reed McIlvain, and Leilani Schap.
Regina’s family called her Tootsie or Toots. She graduated from Johnstown High School in 1950, and married her husband, Donald on October 23, 1954. They started a family in Pennsylvania, and moved to Virginia when he accepted an apprenticeship with NASA Langley in Hampton, VA. She worked for Virginia Employment Commission in Hampton, VA and retired in 1996. They lived the rest of their lives in Virginia. She was a wonderful wife and mother and was always taking care of her home and family. She loved crafting, pottery, gardening, traveling and playing bridge.
Regina was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Hampton, VA, and supported many Christian charities. She was a member of the Italian Club, Red Hat Society, Mallory Pool Booster Club and volunteered at Mallory Elementary School where her children attended.
The family will receive friends on January 18, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 2150 Cunningham Drive, Hampton, VA 23666 with a Mass at 10:00 AM. A reception will be held at the church following the Mass, and Interment will be held at 1:00 PM at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23666.
Memorial donations made in memory of Regina E. Shortt are requested to be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
